Little Gems

3 Months - 2 Years

Within this room we have a ratio of one member of staff to three babies. Children are settled in the room according to their individual needs and this is discussed with parents during registration and settling in sessions. Each child’s individual routine is followed in partnership with parents and a key person in allocated.

Children in Little Gems love sensory play and different activities following their interests. Specific activities are provided for them to explore, enabling them to use all their senses.

Baby Care

A child’s first two years are critical for the development of the brain and for language development.

From birth, babies are busy, active learners, immediately investigating the sights, sounds, and feel of the world. They explore the world with their senses when developing motor skills. Their bodies are learning to navigate the up and down, over and under of the physical world: their perceptions are sorting out sizes, colours, and shapes.

At Palace Day Nursery we provide our Little Gems with what they need: a safe world, rich with opportunities to actively follow their interests and explore: sensory play, books, songs, a lot of listening and responding to their interests and needs. There is a separate sleep area for babies to sleep in where staff are able to monitor them.

Our Sapphires

2 - 3 Years

Children in this room start at the age of two and the ratio is one member of staff to four toddlers. Children at this age are very curious and eager to explore. The staff follow children’s interests and provide activities to extend their learning in the moment.

Toddler Care

Our two year-olds are moving from the total dependence of babyhood to the more independent, mobile world of Toddlers. At this age children are exploring their powers to communicate, to move purposely, to assert their independence and individuality, and to control their important bodily functions.

At Palace Day Nursery we provide the manageable challenges and relaxed environment that two to three year olds need. Staff understand the frequent changes in moods, interests, and capabilities and provide calm, consistent care and supportive teaching.

Emeralds

Pre-School

Children in this room start from the age of three years and the ratio is one member of staff to eight children. We continue to work with children on their interests by extending their learning. Within this room we focus on preparing children for school working on their prime areas.

Pre-School Bletchley

To us, school readiness does not mean the children are reading and writing when they go to school, it means:

Our children are active participants in their own learning journey. They discover new and exciting things, go beyond the exploration of what things they can already do and think of how we can guide them do things they have not even thought of yet. To be able to listen and respond to a discussion, extending on and developing the conversation in the moment. Extending their learning where appropriate through their interests.
We want our children to be willing to have a go and try new things. To begin to ask how questions, as well as why questions. To persevere when faced with challenges, to overcome these and understand why they were able to do it.

Overall, we want the children to be happy and have a love of learning!
